Whether it’s a childhood classic or a more recent favourite – nothing gets you in the festive spirit quite like curling up with a mug of hot chocolate by the Christmas tree and watching a Christmas movie.
Here are the top 5 Christmas movies (and TV specials) that never fail to get me in the Christmas spirit:
1. The Santa Clause 1, 2 & 3
These movies are by far my favourites on the list; they’ve been a holiday staple – a tradition really, throughout my life. It never feels quite like Christmastime until I’ve watched all three of The Santa Clause movies.
2. The Holiday
The Holiday is one of those movies that I never thought I would like, but somehow it’s become one of my favourite holiday movies, and a yearly staple. It may be that I long to live in a snowy little English cottage, but this movie just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and puts you in the Christmas spirit.
3. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
I’m just going to throw this out there, if you are older than 15 and prefer the live-action-Jim-Carrey-Grinch to the classic animated short…I may judge you a little bit. Growing up, seeing How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on TV was a true sign of Christmastime, and it remains one of those things that can instantly makes it feel like the holidays.
4. Frosty the Snowman
If for no other reason than this, Frosty is a childhood favourite that still manages to make me excited for Christmas whenever I catch it on TV. “HAPPY BIRTHDAAAY!”
5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
As a kid, I could never quite decide whether I loved or hated these stop-motion Christmas movies, but they were my mom’s favourites and not a year went by without watching these on Christmas eve. I’ve definitely grown to love them (Rudolph, in particular) and I look forward to seeing them on TV during the holidays.
