Fangirl Favourites February 2016

Fangirl Favourites – February 2016

Okay, so I have no idea where February went – stress and the flu basically consumed my entire month and now all of a sudden it’s March. It feels like I’ve barely had any time to have favourites, but despite all that a lot of things were released in February that I’ve been enjoying, so let’s check them out!

I’ve been following the development of Stardew Valley for nearly three years now and the game was FINALLY released on Friday. While I’ve only had a chance to play the game for a few days, it’s definitely earned itself a spot in my favourites. Following a game so closely for so long, I was kind of setting myself up to be severely disappointed if the game wasn’t everything that I’d hoped (cough, Sims 4, cough) – but Stardew Valley is AMAZING. It’s basically Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing on steroids, and if you like either of those games I can guarantee you will love it.

Glass Sword

Okay, so I’m not done reading Glass Sword yet, in fact I’m only like ten chapters in BUT what I can say is that Victoria Aveyard has done a fantastic job in carrying on the story of Mare Barrow. Red Queen ended in a way that I absolutely did not expect, and so far I’ve been equally surprised by the events of Glass Sword. For me, the beginning of a sequel is the most important part, especially in a series that I love. So regardless of how I feel once I finish the book, I think Victoria Aveyard’s ability to effortlessly draw you back into the world we were introduced to in Red Queen is enough to earn the book a spot in this month’s favourites.

Batgirl Vol 2  & Lumberjanes Vol 3

This month I picked up the newest trades of Batgirl and Lumberjanes. Both titles are favourites of mine, but ones that I enjoy reading more in trades than single issues and they are ALWAYS worth the wait.

Batgirl Vol. 2 was super cute as always, complete with a lesbian wedding and robocop Batman. To me there was a little more story, and not as much butt-kicking in this volume but you can tell that they’re setting up a big storyline.

Lumberjanes Vol 3 was everything that Lumberjanes usually is – really fun and filled with cake and bespectacled dinosaurs. I always look forward to Lumberjanes as a quick, easy read, and it can usually pull me out of one of my reading ruts.

Watercolour Prints by PuellaNest

For my birthday at the beginning of the month, Zack sent me these two amazing watercolour prints by PuellaNest on Etsy. I got Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon and the silhouette of Hogwarts. I absolutely love them and I can’t wait to frame them and get them up on my wall.

…because Deadpool came out this month (and it was awesome) but also X-MEN APOCALYPSE IS OUT SOON AND I’M VERY EXCITED.

That’s it for February’s Fangirl Favourites! I’d love to hear what you’ve been fangirling about this month, let me know in the comments or tweet me. Also, let me know if you’d like to see a longer game review post for Stardew Valley.

    1. The shop has so many great ones, I couldn’t pick! I narrowed it down to a few of them and made Zack pick for me 😛

  1. I ordered Batgirl. I hope to have it soon. I’m giving it a try. I’m not a fan of DC, but I’ve read good reviews on this one, so. Here I go 😉

    1. I am also not a big fan of DC, in fact Batgirl (Gail Simone) was the first DC title I ever liked. Now I like a few titles – Batgirl, Gotham Academy and Black Canary.

  2. Ha! I love that gif!! I think I’ve been in the same boat as you. I’ve been either sick or stressed out to the point that I didn’t what to write. I’m glad that you were able to share with us some of your favorites. Those prints are beautiful!! I thought it was Hogwarts, but I had to scroll down to see if you mentioned what it was. Totally called it!!

    1. Aw, I hope you’re feeling better now! Wanting to write but being too stressed to do so is the worst feeling, I hope you’re also feeling better in that regard. 🙂

    1. They are really great. I don’t typically gravitate towards books like this but I picked it up at the library on a whim and was completely sucked in…I went to bed WAY too late most nights trying to finish the first book, I couldn’t put it down.

    1. Yeah, probably not. I’d love to see that too! They are fighting for an X-Force movie though, Deadpool would be in that! 🙂
