Fangirl Favourites August 2016

Fangirl Favourites – August 2016

After spending the majority of the summer buried under work and assignments, I’ve finally had a chance to join the real world (a little bit) and realized it’s nearly September! Hey, I’m not complaining…like many of you, I’m ready for 2016 to be over but I’m even more ready for HALLOWEEN and sweater weather, but mostly Halloween. I may or may not have bought a black cat Halloween candy dish for my desk at work which I pass off as “just a cat dish” somewhat convincingly…

Anyways, I’ll stop rambling you’ll get enough Halloween talk from me in the coming months. Let’s check out all the things I’ve been loving lately:

Kickstarter of the Month: Happily Ever Aftr by Ricky Lima

I’m not going to go into too much detail, because I want every single one of you to head over to the Kickstarter page and check it out for yourselves but this two sentence description of the comic alone was enough to get me to back it:

A kidnapped Princess uses a dating app to find Knights to rescue her. Meanwhile, her captor discovers what true love means to her.

and of course this fantastic quote from Ricky Lima himself:

My mother thinks the characters are kind of ugly, so that means the book is real cool 🙂

– Ricky Lima (@KingKRule)

If that doesn’t make you want to back the project, I don’t know what will.

Seriously though, I may be a bit biased because I was drawn into a live-stream comic during the launch. I’m an arrowhead (See below, it’s a true likeness) but this comic looks hilarious, I’m a sucker for modern spins on classic fairy tale tropes and this one was just meant to be!

P.S. Right before posting this I found out the project was just backed 100% in only six days! Woo!

Jacquelin de Leon Pins

Fangirl Favourites August 2016

Like many of you, I’ve recently rediscovered my love of enamel pins due to all the amazing artists I follow releasing them. However, my current favourites, by far, are Jacquelin de Leon’s Moon Deity and Pirate Mermaid pins. I’ve become somewhat obsessed with them and I couldn’t resist buying the Moon Deity pin as a gift for Liana and Ashlee in their emergency happiness packages because really, everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty of these magical pieces of wearable art (and Jacquelin’s art in general, she’s amazing).

Lindsey Stirling – Brave Enough

I’ve always loved instrumental music – particularly violin, so I don’t know what took me so long to check out Lindsey Stirling’s music. I came across the song Something Wild ft. Andrew McMahon (whom I’ve been a fan of since Something Corporate) a few weeks ago and finally decided to check out more of her music and it’s AMAZING. I’ve been listening to it on repeat at work for the past week because it’s such great music to work to. Of course, my favourite song is Something Wild but everything on the record is worth listening to.

World of Warcraft Legion

Okay, so when I’m writing this…Legion technically hasn’t been released yet but pfft, it can totally still be a favourite for the month right? I haven’t been playing WoW very long, so this is going to be the first expansion launch I actually take part in and I’m very excited. The pre-expansion patch has been so much fun, I can only expect more of the same from the full expansion.

Gif of the Month

This month’s GIF comes after the news of Gene Wilder’s death. My heart is incredibly heavy, Willy Wonka is my favourite movie and it shaped my childhood. Gene Wilder was a true icon and I will forever be grateful for his work.

That’s it for this month’s Fangirl Favourites! As always, in the comments below let me know what you’ve been loving this month, and if you have any recommendations for awesome Kickstarters to back I’d love to check them out!

  1. Freaking love Lindsey Stirling’s music! Gene Wilder’s death hit me harder than expected; he brought so much joy to my childhood with WW of course, and also Young Frankenstein which is one of my absolute favorites. He’ll certainly be missed.

    1. That’s how I felt. I didn’t expect for it to hit me that hard but I guess you don’t often realize the impact these people and movies from your childhood have on you until something like this happens.

  2. Great post. Love those pins and so sad about Gene Wilder. He was magical as Willy Wonka and will continue to bring me smiles.

    1. I did my hunter quest last night but didn’t get home from work until super late so decided to stop after that. I want to enjoy it, rather than be half asleep, haha.

  3. I say Legion can totally count as a fave for August…I’ve been counting down the days until the release and it’s finally here, yay!! And I’m so in love with my Moon Diety pin, thank you thank you thank you<3
